The corresponding area in the archaeological zone of the Paleochristian Necropolis of Tarragona, is protected by a unique structure designed by the architect Emilio Pérez Piñero and was executed at the beginning of the 70s of the last century.
The structure is composed by means of the succession of bohemian vaults, generated by means of a reticular spatial structure of steel of remarkable slenderness, supported on metallic pillars, of closed section, located in the intersections of the support trusses of the vaults.
The purpose of study that Windmill carried out was to document the analysis carried out on the mechanical behavior of the aforementioned structure, motivated by the loss of different parts of the roof, against the action of the high wind loads that occurred at the beginning of 2018 and to some extent, in the obvious and pathological degradations that are found in a large part of the visible parts of the structure, which lead the analysis and discussion to extend to the problem of physical-chemical durability and the mechanical behavior of the resistant framework.
Finally, a technical-economic proposal for the replacement of the roof system and the rehabilitation of the structure analyzed is contemplated in the study.
