The use of concrete with post-tension reinforcement in Spain, in terms of quantity, is significantly below that which is common in some of the countries in our economic environment. One of the keys that lies behind this underutilization is possibly the not too widespread mastery of the technique of post-stressing within the world of architecture, which has led to a knowledge somewhat based on what we might call "rumors".

Roofs made of post-tensioned concrete are neither as expensive nor as difficult to execute as is sometimes thought. In fact sometimes the case is the opposite, especially in the framework of a certain range of spans, the post-tensioned slab supposes a competitive roof and quite easy to execute, among other significant advantages.

In this conference, we propose the revision of the bases of the technique of post-tensioning within the construction world, both at the level of design and calculation, also advising of the architectural possibilities or use of this technique, both in cases that we could qualify as more everyday as well as in more unique cases.
